Substation Automation & SCADA Integration

From Substation to SCADA: Making Energy Data Actionable

Power grids and industrial electrical networks depend on much more than equipment operating in the field. They also depend on information: measurements to collect, intelligent devices to integrate, control functions to supply and visibility to provide through supervisory systems.

The challenge is therefore not simply to generate data. The challenge is to make that data usable throughout the automation architecture. LEROY Automation addresses power distribution and substation automation with control-command platforms, PLC and I/O modules, Remote Terminal Unit capabilities and communication technologies designed to integrate with supervisory architectures.

Connecting field equipment to control

Field devices generate information about the physical infrastructure. Control and I/O systems collect and process that information. Communication technologies then allow relevant data to move through the architecture and become available to supervisory systems.

FIELD EQUIPMENT → CONTROL & I/O → COMMUNICATION → SCADA

Integrating heterogeneous energy architectures

Energy infrastructures rarely operate around a single communication technology. Different generations of equipment and different manufacturers may coexist in one environment.

LEROY Automation solutions support architectures integrating IEC 61850, IEC 60870, DNP3, Modbus and HNZ. The STRATON IEC 61131-3 environment supports control applications.

From field data to operational information

Collecting information is not the final objective. A well-integrated architecture makes relevant field information available to control and supervision systems where it can support operations and decision-making.

Automation for long-life infrastructure

Energy infrastructure can combine demanding operational environments, heterogeneous equipment and long product lifecycles. Control, communication, integration and lifecycle considerations therefore need to be addressed together.
